Why Do Cars Need Suspension Bumpers?

The role of the suspension bumper
In order to prevent the impact caused by the “breakdown” of the suspension, when the wheel jumps to a certain stroke, it is connected in parallel with the main elastic element (such as a coil spring) to form a highly nonlinear elastic element, which is the buffer block. The bumper is mainly used to limit the suspension travel to absorb the shock load transmitted from the wheel to the body.

Design of buffer blocks

Design principle: Under full load, when the wheel jumps to the maximum dynamic stroke, the following conditions must be met:

1. The spring does not produce the phenomenon of “coiling”;

2. The shock absorber piston does not hit the bottom (bottom of the oil cylinder);

3. There is no obvious “impact feeling” during the deformation process;

4. Strength and fatigue life of disguised 2/3H height;

Buffer block selection

It is recommended to choose a porous buffer block made of polyurethane material, which can buffer shock loads better than rubber materials. Moreover, the polyurethane material has small plastic deformation, better aging resistance and better water absorption resistance.

According to the calculated spring compression force PS, the height of the buffer block H and the compression height 2H/3, we can design the performance curve as follows: when the buffer block is in the initial compression state, the value of P increases slowly, and when it is close to the compression 2H/3 , the P value increases sharply, so that when driving on uneven roads, the number of “breakdowns” of the suspension can be reduced to improve ride comfort. In this regard, polyurethane materials are much better than rubber.

Car Auto Parts Shock Absorber

The vehicle has been driven for a long time, and the buffer block disappeared?
Some car owners reported that when the car was driven for a long time, when they went to replace the shock absorber, they found that the buffer block disappeared? That’s because the material of the buffer block is made of polyurethane foam, which has the function of buffering and anti-collision. However, after the service life, it will appear cracked, damaged, and become powdery. And with the high temperature generated by the up and down movement of the piston rod, the powder appears sticking and burning marks.

Solution:
1. When replacing the shock absorber movement, be sure to replace the buffer block!
2. Be sure to replace the buffer blocks of regular brands. Many buffer blocks on the market are soft like sponges. It is better not to install them! ! !
3. The most direct and effective method is to replace the shock absorber assembly!
